Response - Upcoming Adobe Software

Adobe Premiere Rush is an editing software that takes things to the next level. Premiere Rush is different from Premiere in that it provides a simpler work space so that the average person can reliably use it. It was launched mainly for online video creators and bloggers for this purpose. However, the most unique thing about it is that you can begin editing a video on your computer, and then automatically sync it to a mobile device to work on the go. It's very user friendly and has been consistently updated since its release.

Response - Public Domain and Creative Commons

When creating art through existing media, it's important to understand that most of what is allowed for use without consequence is something called "Public Domain." When something is in the public domain, all that means is that it can be used and edited without permission or any kind of clearance. A harmful misconception that floats around the digital world is that anything that isn't explicitly copyrighted is "free to use" and is for public use. This isn't the case. The situation varies, but generally the only natural way that something becomes public domain is by aging substantially. Once the artist dies and a certain amount of time has passed, a work will eventually be considered free for public use. Otherwise, if an artist wants something they create to be officially public domain, some kind of marker is required. For example, the creative commons license which states specifically whether something can be used or augmented. 

"Creative Commons" licenses are probably the best and most efficient way to state exactly if and how a work can be utilized for outside use. This makes sense because really the entire point and reasoning behind Creative Commons is to make usage of existing media easy, safe, and fast for the average person. The license is displayed most often with a varying symbol that communicates quickly what is permitted. Some examples of these symbols include whether or not something can have derivative works made of it or if it can be used commercially. Creative Commons also makes it very easy for the average artist of just about anything to easily state to the world their requirements for their intellectual property. A large portion of public domain material online is gifted by the average online creator and this makes it much more convenient for those people.

Remix Manifesto Thoughts

This was a very interesting documentary and that was added onto when I saw that it was created by a very small group of people. The style of the film was serious and did not take its content very lightly. One of the most interesting parts was how much Disney was used, which is ironic because they're so lawsuit happy any and everywhere. Basically Disney's blatant hypocrisy was pointed out. The fact that a company that has built itself on reusing public domain consistently sues over everything is ridiculous. They even got the laws themselves changed to adhere to Mickey Mouse not going public.
I learned a lot from this video, but especially that we've come a long way and hopefully that we will continue to. For example, you don't have many instances of kids online being sued, rather artists like to file DMCA's to scare them into stopping. That's still not the best but it's a step in a better direction, even if it can lead to a proper lawsuit if it's serious enough to the party involved. I didn't learn this from the film, but it's something I thought about while watching.

Olivia Portrait

For this project I had to choose someone who I look up to and I had to make a photo of them into a vector portrait. This is my friend Olivia. She is an amazing photographer with an agreeable and lovable personality. She inspires me every day so I thought there was no better person to go with. As for actually going and creating this portrait, it was hard work. It took about 20 hours in total going over every little, meticulous detail with the pen tool. However, I think it wonderfully payed off. I have to say that I wish I'd taken more time on the shirt and neck to help it match the quality of her face and hat just a little bit better. Other than that I'm very proud of this piece. I experimented with the background a little but I ultimately went with the pink that appears in her lips and on her camera straps to bring the whole thing together. The focal point is supposed to be her face and her hat. I put a lot of detail into these and although it was unintentional at first, the detail that the face has and that the shirt doesn't allows the eyes to stay pinned on her face.

I was able to fix most of the issues presented in critique, however I made the decision to leave the wall blank in the large minion image. Everything I put there looked distracting and unnatural. I darkened the 2D drawing photo and added lighting on the 2D aspects of it.

Reflection on Blogs

The first two chapters of “100 Ideas for Your Blog” had a lot of good insight and suggestions. Definitely more so than I thought it would. It’s a little bit confusing so I definitely had to read through many sections two or three times to understand. Despite this I really liked how each section was short and simple albeit a bit jumpy. My favorite piece of advice was that on adding scraps, the reason being that it’s such an out there thing that I’ve never seen advised before. For me I don’t know much about blogs and other than a rarely used Tumblr account, I’ve never done it myself. To me it does seem like any other form of social media or thread sites. The difference being less interactivity between people as the entire blog is exclusively myself posting for now to myself.
