Assignment #1 - Alphabet

For this project I decided to go with a soft texture theme. I like soft things and thought I could do something fun and creative with it. Font wise I just created letters in the way that I write them on paper which is more rounded. I constructed the letters out of worm-on-a-strings which are just some cute, fluffy toys. They're very wiggly and add an extra layer of uniqueness to the letters making them look almost scribbly. There's no organization with the color - I like it unpredictable granted the materials I used. The next trick was a background and I went with the fluffiest blanket I had to match the fluffiness of the letters.

The most fun part was also the most difficult part - arranging the letters. The colors are random, but there are actually about 20 different colors of "worm" I used in total - about 5 colors per letter. To make this as even as possible I had this system of pulling five random ones from a bag for each letter. The trouble is getting them to stay still enough to look like letters. They're very bendy and don't like conforming to shapes so I had to really think about how I arranged them to account for their need to escape. While this was difficult and led to some cropping issues later, the advantage is that most of the letters feel like they're moving!

Another issue is that my camera kept changing the kind of lighting it preferred for every single letter. I gave up on trying to fix this because it matches the chaotic setup everything else has, but I could see this becoming a future problem that I need to figure out how to fix. My best solution to this was warming up the whole image to make the more cool backgrounds still feel cohesive with the rest of it.
